I would like to buy a new theme (a responsive one) but I need to know about my installed mods : will they work or will I have to reinstall them ?

It really depends on your knowledge of how mods work when they are installed.  If you understand how files get edited when MODs are installed, you would just make those edits to the files of the NEW theme you add.  I had about 60 MODs installed on my site before adding the responsive themes from here, and didn't have to go through the uninstall reinstall process for every single one.

MOD that make edits to the /Themes/default/"FILE NAMES"  would just have to be made for the same files in the new theme you add.  Typically is mostly deals with files like index.template.php , BoardIndex.template ,  Display.template , etc ... and theme specific images have to be ported over and css file edits.  It's work, but if you know what you're doing isn't too demanding.

And now with Hooks everything is easier, it shouldn't be a problem to have those mods working.
